Location for Apartment Chiara

Lucca is ideally placed for the airport (Pisa is only 25 minutes drive away), the beaches (about 25-30 minutes drive), Florence (45-55 minutes) and the mountains including the ski resort of Abetone (60-75 minutes drive).

Access without a car is also good with train links to Pisa, Viareggio and Florence plus bus links to the same cities and more.

For arrival in a car: From the motorway (Firenze-Pisa Mare) take the exit for Lucca east. Once you have paid the toll, follow signs for “Centro”. After approx 500m you will go through a traffic light and cross the railway on a bridge. On descending from the bridge take the right lane you will see the Lucca walls in front of you and a roundabout in the road. At the roundabout go right and continue parallel to the walls (they are on your left). You need to go about 1/3 of the way arounf the city, you will follow a one way section near the station which finishes with you facing in the direction of the walls (them in front of you), stay right to regain your route parallel to the walls. Continue through a traffic light, follow the road to the left staying parellel to the walls and turn left at the next lights. This takes you into the walls through a gate with a traffic light (one lane wide). Once inside the walls, continue straght for about 200m until you see a no entry (pedestrian zone) sign in front of you. Turn right. This is the road of the apartment (number 29). Continue to the far end of the road where you will enter a piazza with parking. The apartment is about 10-15m before the piazza

If traveling by bus to Lucca from Pisa airport you will get off the bus at Piazzale Verdi (just inside the walls). In Piazzale Verdi there is a tourist information office which has local maps. We advise you get one and locate via Santa Chiara (see map link above) in order to make your way on foot. The most direct route is to enter the town on Via San Paolino, continue along to the end of this road where it enters Piazza San Michele. Continue straight across the Piazza and enter Via Roma, which becomes Via Elisa. Continue straight. After about 500m you go through a large gatehouse of the previous medieval walls and pass the old fossa (stream). Continue straight for about 20m and take the next left (Via Santa Chiara). The apartment is number 29 at the far end of the road (on the left).

If arriving by train; From the station you need to cross the garden in front of the station, and then cross the road heading towards the walls. Having crossed the road, locate the path leading towards and through the walls more or less in front of you. Follow this path. When you are inside the walls turn right on the road with the stream to your right. Follow this road when it turns left (with the stream) and continue until you see the large medieval gatehouse on your left. At this point turn right and continue for about 20m. Take the next left (Via Santa Chiara). The apartment is number 29 at the far end of the road (on the left).
